This workshop introduces students to a historical handwriting style used 16th to the 19th century, including in texts by notable Latvian and German-speaking authors of the time.
Students explore how these letterforms were used in everyday writing, literature, and historical documents, gaining insight into a script that was once widely understood.
Through guided practice, they learn the basic structure of the letters and experiment with writing selected forms using traditional tools.
The workshop focuses on:
recognising characteristic letterforms
understanding historical writing practices
exploring examples inspired by literary and historical sources
gaining hands-on experience with historical writing tools
The workshop opens a door to the past — helping students not only see historical writing, but begin to understand it.
